Seeing red 2018

As always, events are thronging thick and fast as the year races towards its end. On Sunday we said farewell to Payback as he heads off OS...and then on Monday a bunch of Samford hashers took to the streets of West End in their natty little red numbers for the 2018 Red Dress Run. And Hash Christmas is coming up on Saturday!

Shockjock set what he laughingly referred to as a flat run/walk from Wahminda. But who would be taken in by the notion of a flat run from this location? It's true that the walkers had just one hill - but what a hill! Good thing we had the defib machine with us....

Our hares provided a tasty and filling hotpot, lighting and a convenient drinks stand. Many thanks, guys!

A farewell down, down:

Some Red Dress first timers joined a strong Samford contingent (a dozen strong) at the 2018 Red Dress Run. Patrons along the restaurant strip had something to talk about as the red-clad crowds got between them and the waiters bringing their meals. So did a group of police on Boundary Road in West End. As always, Santa led the singing at the drinks stop, and we stayed on for a meal at the Plough Inn.

Hash Christmas is on Saturday 1st December at Cedar Creek (theme: Fruit, Flowers and Nuts) and we'll follow this up with a leftover Potluck recovery run from John Scott Park.

Another Potluck bonanza

M. Promptu took the walkers and runners on a couple of pleasant circuits from the village, and Potluck - as always - provided an extraordinarily varied feast. Thanks, everyone, for your contributions!

It's a really busy time of year. The Red Dress Run is next Monday - 26th November - from the Plough Inn. Some of our regular Red Dress runners and walkers will be missing (Payback is OS, Le W*nk is working elsewhere, and last year's winner of the Best Dressed Award - Mile High - is also going to be absent.) But we hope to have a few there carrying the Samford banner. Here's a reminder of last year's event. And here's the flyer for this year's one:

Hash Christmas follows on 1st December. Shockjock has prepared a special brew, and it should be a good night.

111111-100 Run

Feral distributed poppies at the start of our Armistice Day run, and we all wore them as we explored the Bunya tracks. Jamesbondage had set a couple of very scenic and well-marked bushland circuits, cunningly placing the flour out of the way of all mountain bikers except those about to smash into a tree. Miss Demeanour, who counts herself as a walker, actually kept up with the runners pretty well until the trail split....She is going to have to join them one day! Back at the hares' mansion we were regaled with one of Redbreast's justly celebrated feasts. Many thanks, hares!

We felt rather melancholy as we bade farewell to B Flat and Malpractice, who are on their way back to Cambridge (and I refuse to say "Cambridge, England".) Payback and Megaphone will be meeting up with them in a few weeks for another Samford Hash offshore run. Meanwhile OS visitor Heavy Metal made it to his second Samford Hash meet, and promises to return every now and then over the next little while.

Shockjock was looking remarkably spry after celebrating his birthday the day before, along with a rag-tag bunch of (by my reckoning) at least 30 hashers and non-hashers. Here are just a few images from the craft brewery tour he led us on:

He shared a birthday down, down with Malpractice during the circle.

Finally - this was taken earlier in the week - here's a rare shot of Payback hard at work:

Hell, West and crooked

Like a nest of - shall we say? - NSW rugby league supporters scattering when a light is shone on them (get it?), the walkers seem to have taken off in all directions this last Sunday. To be fair, some (like Budgie and Miss Behavin') did follow the trail all the way. Others missed a vital turn early in the piece and then picked a variety of paths: some returned and completed the walk in the right direction; others did it in reverse; and still others who attempted the trail in reverse got lost again and had to be rescued. The hare enjoyed a down, down for his efforts:

Back home at Undambi Reserve, Culture explained how to assemble a home-made sub to an attentive audience, while Eweshggr collected a stool sample for his GP:

It was good to catch up with B&W and Fruti for the first time in a while, and to welcome Escargot back home from the Old Country. Dingo had been hobnobbing with Prince Harry - no less - on Fraser Island!

Next weekend a number of us will be accompanying Shockjock on his Big Birthday Craft Beer Pubcrawl. Other upcoming events include the Red Dress Run on the 26th November and Hash Christmas on the 1st of December. There are only 7 runs to go before Christmas!

When: Sunday 11th November, 5 pm
Where: Dugandan Road, Bunya - at the start of bike track number 9. Here's a map! And here's another!
