Sunset cruise

An expert hand on the tiller took us across the water from Bulimba for a stroll around the exotic environs of Teneriffe and New Farm.

There were a lot of wedding photos being taken with the river and the Powerhouse as backdrops - and some of them must feature members of Samford Hash! "Don't do it!" yelled Payback as we scattered one wedding party - but he was too late. The ceremony had already taken place....

In New Farm Park some members of the Society for Creative Anachronism were bandaging their flesh wounds after a good day of wacking one another with broadswords, maces and morningstars....Why would anyone do that rather than go for a Hash run?

Then it was back to the ferry for a homeward trip and a Three (3) Course Meal - including cheesecake! - at Hardcore's house. Top that, future hares! (In fact next week's run is a pot luck one, so there'll be no competition.)

And here's a song for the Ferryman:

Next run details

Riparian ramble

A description of the Brisbane River in the old days:
On both sides is the magnificent primeval forest, untouched by the hand of man. Tall, dark, majestic kauri pines tower above the other vegetation. Splendid staghorn and elkhorn ferns cling to the stems and branches of many trees. Glorious orchids are flowering on the trees and rocks. The air is heavy with the sensuous odour of many flowers. Flocks of gorgeously plumaged and noisy parrots...revel among the bloom of the forest wattles or the blossoms of the beantrees. Groups of solemn pelicans...stand on the sandbacks, or fish in crescent lines....*
Apart from the townhouses, the UQ rowing club, the sportsfields, running track, tennis courts, colleges and the golf course...it was just like that on Sunday.

Hopalong and Superhacker set a very scenic run around the perimeter of the campus, and finished it off with a magnificent spread - including a vegetarian option! Well done, hares!

Here's a shot of most of the group (some had to leave early):

It was good to welcome Big Top back from her trip to the Land of the Free (and Bradley Manning.) She, Hardcore and Urass are our hosts and hares this coming weekend. It will be another "out of the valley experience" - and probably a cold one, so wrap up well.  We were going to be running from Hardcore's Morningside mansion, but there has been a change of venue (see below.)  And as we'll be going on a ferry ride, please bring your GoCard!

Next run details
When: Sunday 24th June, 4 pm
Where: Bulimba Riverside Park, Bulimba.  A map!  Remember to bring a GoCard for the fairies - I mean the ferries....

Brilliant beach weather

it was not. Leaden sea, louring sky, cold, wind and rain...it was much more like Skegness than SEQ this Sunday. Still the hardy members of Samford Hash were undeterred, setting off in the grim conditions to find the only hills that Sandgate provided...and taking in the rainswept seaside promenade and slippery headland on the way. Many thanks to Le W*nk for the run and the snags. Hope the fact that he hadn't done more about the weather didn't put off the two Hash virgins - it's always good to have extra runners....

I have to mention that the run was sponsored by Finer Finishers - check out their new website!

And after displaying our lack of brains by heading out in this weather we're returning to the groves of academe next week with another intelligent St Lucia run - courtesy of Hopalong and Superhacker....

Finally, here are a couple of one-liners to continue the theme started on Sunday:

A wife says to her husband, "You know, I was a fool when I married you." And the husband replies, "Yes dear, but I was in love and didn't notice it."

A woman inserts an ad in the classfieds: "Husband wanted." Next day she receives a hundred letters. They all say the same thing: "You can have mine."

Boom, boom!

Next run details
When: Sunday 17th June, 4 pm (after this run the days start getting longer!)
Where: Guyatt Park, St Lucia. Here's a map!

Alive, alive - o!

Shockjock played the live hare this Sunday, and various groups of runners and walkers played variations on his theme - which essentially went up and down a lot. The runners almost caught up with him at one point, but by the time they had wheezed up the hill he was well out of sight. It was altogether a very enjoyable jaunt through the woods.

The whole family had contributed to the delicious meal - so thanks to all the big chefs and little chefs as well!

Le W*nk will be celebrating his move to the seaside next weekend with a run from his place. He'll find hills a bit more difficult to come by at Sandgate, but there are some stairs from the parking area to the beach - we could go up and down them for a while....Do remember that it can get cold by the bay - so bring something (or somebody) warm to snuggle into.

And here's a little story for us aging folk:

A bloke goes to his doctor for a checkup. When he's done the doctor asks, "Is there anything else concerning you?"

"Well, not really," says the fellow. "I'm a bit worried that my wife might be losing her hearing, though."

"Has she had it tested?"

"No - she gets quite annoyed when I suggest it."

"Tell you what," says the doctor. "Try saying something to her from some distance away, then come a bit closer and say it again. Keep moving closer until she can hear you. This should give you an idea of how bad her hearing is."

Whem the bloke gets home his wife is in the kitchen. So he stands in the living room and calls, "What's for dinner, dear?"

He then tries it from the kitchen door: "That smells good. What's for dinner, darling?"

Finally he comes right up behind her: "What's for dinner?"

She turns round and says, "For goodness' sake! For the third time - it's meatloaf!"
