Dads' Day 2015

Spring is in the air! And the lengthening days and warming weather signal hashers that it's time to change their underpants. Specifically, it's time for the Samford Hash Tight Jocks to be reluctantly pulled off by the retiring Father of the Year and passed on to the next worthy recipient.

Who could be more worthy this year than someone who is just about to start changing nappies for the first time? Gastrick was an obvious and unanimous choice. It's his sacred duty for the next 12 months to guard the Tight Jocks and the Family Jewels from harm, to embellish them in a fitting way, and (very important, this) to make sure that they never see the inside of a washing machine.

The quaint but hauntingly moving ceremony took place this year at Haughty and Culture's after a scenic rockhop along the creek and an encounter with some wild horses (aka miniature ponies.)

Floater and Escargot were there, justly proud of their achievements the previous Sunday in (respectively) the Sunshine Coast half-marathon and the Bridge to Brisbane. Well done, guys!

B&W is someone who has virtually grown up in Samford Hash, as this snap from the early days illustrates. Is he really that fresh-faced lad in the back row?

This coming Sunday he'll be hosting a run to celebrate his 40th birthday.... How time flies!

Blue moon run

As Hugandkiss reminded us, the full moon that rose over the water last Sunday was a blue one (though it didn't look it) - the second full moon of the month.

This was only one of many scenic moments on our tour of historic Shorncliffe. Our hares began by taking us around the layered rocks of the headland around to Sandgate. The route provided lovely views - nautical, meteorological, geological and botanical - that is, lovely views of sea, sky, rocks, trees and flowers. From here we turned inland past some of the historical residences of the area, and then into some of the reclaimed wetland parkland behind the headland. The homeward section of the trail took us past the jetties where trawlers tie up, and past some very expensive toys at the cruising yacht club. All in all, it was a great Sunday afternoon excursion to the seaside.

And here are the first returnees blocking that view - the stragglers were yet to make it back, and Mile High is just firing up the BBQ for some gourmet sizzled sausages, served with a huge range of accompaniments - ratatouille, kraut, salad, and multiple sauces included. Thanks to our hares!

We bade farewell to Topless - off to Germany again - and welcomed a visitor from Vietnam.
