"Then to the shore of one of those long loops
Wherethro' the serpent river coil'd, they came.
Rough-thicketed were the banks, and steep...."
(from Tennyson Gareth and Lynette (1872) - one of the Idylls of the King)
It's hard to avoid quoting Alfred, Lord T. after running through a suburb named after him and along streets named in honour of the Idylls of the King. Though I don't recall King Arthur having a terrace at Camelot. A hall, yes; a round table; even a jousting ground...but a terrace?
Anyway, it was a very pleasant day for a knightly quest along the long loops of the serpent river. Thanks to Superhacker and Hoppy for introducing us to a spanking new venue! The old power station site looked very different from the way we remembered it. And Shockjock had fond memories of the riverside path he used to follow to and from college back in medieval times....
Here are a few pics of this Sunday's walkers and runners enjoying a classy picnic beside the rough-thicketed river banks:
And here's a shot of some of the Warrumbungle expeditioners. That's not a dog, is it?
