Haughty: "When we were younger we used to run up these stairs without stopping." Chorus: "No we didn't. What are you talking about?" Haughty: "Sorry, I'm hallucinating again. (Whacks self on head with a lump of 2 X 4) Ah, that's better. Let's start again."
We've never managed to run up the Ferny Hills stairs without stopping, and five runners didn't break the tradition this Sunday. It's amazing how much greenery there is along the Hills District gullies, but you do have to go up a down a bit to get to it. And while some of the route was familiar (e.g. the stairs), you did have to check constantly for markings to keep on trail (it seems some of the walkers didn't).
Back at the park, both carnivores and vegetarians enjoyed stew, salad, home-baked bread and chocolates. Many, many thanks to our hare Floater!
It was a brilliant autumnal afternoon for an outing, but the shades of evening drew in all too soon. As usual, we'll be moving to a 4 pm start time from the beginning of April. So next week's Easter Egg run will be the first of the winter meets for the year - please take note.
And here are some shots from the occasion, courtesy of Saucy Sous, Banger and Culture.
