Flat out

Our hares used the old excuse of downpours during the day for the lack of trail markings. The walkers generally opted for a route along the flats and were (mis)lead by Le W*nk, who is suffering from Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ow). He substituted distance for elevation gain because he wanted to inspect progress on the Ferny Grove station building site...which meant that some walkers were rather late coming in. The runners headed up into the hills for a typical Ironbark Gully expedition. This included a visit to the Ironbark bears, who seem to handle rain pretty well. Perhaps they're Scotch-garded.

Here are some of Snappy's pictures from the walk:

There was plenty of water on the ground - and underfoot in the shelter - at Ironbark Gully, but as it turned out we didn't need umbrellas. Conversations for the beginning of 2026 turned on the weather, our injuries, rugby, the new movies, and - inevitably - the doings of the POTUS.

We welcomed back a couple we haven't seen for a few weeks, and we bade farewell to a couple who are heading off to explore van Dieman's land in depth. Many thanks to Miss Behavin' and Budgie for looking after the drinks and plates and cutlery and glasses!

Land of lakes

A well-marked trail took us past some neat and trim Federation-style mansions; and then led us on a circular (sort of) route around the four Murrumba Downs lakes. For those who like it flat, this was just perfect. The runners added a short loop down to the quiet waters of the North Pine, where those dangling a line in the water were catching the usual number of fish, which is not many....

Back at the hares' we indulged in some steakette sandwiches, and got through the usual quantities of fizz and beer. Shockjock and Miss Demeanour had just arrived back from Tassie and were full of travelers' tales, while others were preparing to leave for there and other far-flung bits of the wide brown land. We celebrated Payback's birthday with sparklers (being very, very careful with them), cake, ice-cream, and a birthday down, down. Many, many thanks to our hares, Miss Behavin' and Budgie!

First run of the year

As they did in 2025, Le W*nk and Lax kicked off the new year with a challenging trail. Last year it was the terrain that did it; this year it was the distance. Congratulations to those who made it all the way around the circuit - crossing the South Pine twice, visiting the dinosaurs, and recreating the famous Abbey Road album cover!

We enjoyed snags, bread and salad back at the park. Le W*nk hoped (he said) that the hares weren't setting the catering bar too high....(pics by Cash Converta)

And is this the most beautiful toilet in Brisbane?
