Beer and a virgin - a real Hashfest!

Ozday 2025 kicked off with the Dayboro Beer Mile. International Beer Mile rules were strictly followed by those who wanted their results to count - and Sapporo was by far and away the beer of choice for those who wanted to comply. Samford Hash fielded 4 runners, with their supporters numbering 15 (must be a record) - including Shaggy and Cadbury, who'd traveled all the way from Hervey Bay especially for the event!

A big breakfast followed at Banger and Make an Offer's place. Many, many thanks to them for their hospitality - and thanks to the Dayboro Lions Club for organising this fun community event once again!

It goes without saying that the runners had a bit of a snooze when they got home, but they, and their supporters, and others showed up at Walkabout Creek in the afternoon for a highly scenic stroll and jog led by virgin hare Honkers.

The scenery, and the wildlife:

Our Ozday on, on was at Walton Bridge Reserve, where there was a good stretch of lawn for the traditional thong-tossing competition. Honkers provided a plentiful and wonderful 3-course meal, including traditional Oz fare like silverside and lamingtons. Many, many thanks to her!

Here are some shots from the occasion:

Two of the runners took a tumble on the track, but only Shockjock milked his scratches for all they were worth:

Grandmaster Payback, the winner of the thong-toss (the greatest tosser), and Idle Vice, the wooden-spoon winner, joined our hare for a down, down:

Black swan event

Flooding at Dohles Rocks meant that our venue was changed at the last minute - for the second time in two weeks! All credit to those who got the word out (multiple times): hare Miss Behavin' went to the original venue to capture anyone who had missed the information, but no-one turned up there.

Our revised route took us alongside some highly scenic Murrumba lakes, where we encountered a charming pair of black swans with three adolescent cygnets. The walkers followed a well-marked out-and-back trail, while the runners completed a shortish circular route which gave them plenty of time to admire the wildlife. Congratulations to Dumbbell, who took his surgically-reconstructed knee all the way along the walk!

Back home at the hares' we enjoyed assembling our own healthy hamburgers, which were followed up by healthy home-made brownies. Many thanks to our hares for the walk/run and top-quality meal!
