Under the jacaranda(s)

Culture finally got to fulfil her long-held ambition of recreating Godfrey Rivers 1903 painting "Under the jacaranda" this Sunday, with the aid of some hasher models and photographer Snappy. Hmmmm.

There were plenty of other jacaranda shots as well, and our hare and her assistants had helpfully dotted the trail with camera icons to indicate good photo ops. Pics this week come courtesy of Saucy Sous, Snappy, Cash Converta and Shockjock.

Walkers and runners met up at the entry to the great court -

(this is St Vladimir of Kiev, by the way. Now why didn't anyone try to recreate this sculpture?)

Images from the runners' trail:

Revisiting the campus was quite a nostalgic affair; the walkers joined the runners for a traditional Chariots of Fire circuit of the Great Court - accompanied by the appropriate music.

An athletics festival provided extra entertainment during the on, on. As elite athletes ourselves, we were pleased to be able to offer encouragement and applause to the (slightly) younger competitors:

Potluck once again provided a varied and magnificent feast. Thanks to all for their contributions! And many thanks to our hare and her assistants for a scenic and thoroughly enjoyable trail!

It was good to see Hopalong again, and to hear of her academic success - she has graduated with a First Class degree, and is considering taking on Master's study! We also welcomed back Snappy from several weeks OS.

Welcome back, Superhacker!

Superhacker is back after a couple of years...and she remarked that nothing seemed to have changed over that time. What a lot of boring fuddy-duddies we are! We're looking forward to one of her jacaranda trails next week.

Sunday was the hottest day of the season so far, and as the hare said, the trail went up and down a bit. In particular, it seemed to go up - and it went up a lot in the final hundred metres. There was a bit of concern about the last couple of walkers, and some relief when they appeared. It turns out that they had spent time in the woods on the way trying to identify bird calls with a somewhat unhelpful phone app.

The circle featured a down, down for the hare (obviously) and another for Floater for missing an prominent chalk arrow (although there were three others with her who missed it too) and another for Le W*nk for being generally annoying.

Looking ahead...our original hosts for this year's Hash Christmas party have piked out (boo to them) but Make an Offer and Banger have very kindly offered to fill the breach. So here are the details to enter in your diaries:

Hash Christmas party date: Saturday, December 7th, from 5 pm.

Location: Banger and Make an Offer's Dayboro mansion.

Theme: We're revisiting the Christmas Song theme we enjoyed some years ago - come prepared to perform or present a Christmas song, and dress appropriately.

Also coming up - on the last weekend of this month some Hash Femmes are heading up the Sunshine Coast for one of their serious and sober Girls' Weekends. The "spares" are planning to cheer themselves up with a pub crawl. And there'll be a potluck John Scott Park run for those who are capable of it.

And yet more - this year's Red Dress run is on Monday 2nd December at the Ship Inn. Enter this in your diary as well! Here's a copy of the flyer:

Here are some pictures from Sunday, courtesy of Cash Converta and Saucy Sous - thanks to them!

Finally - Kermit is heading off back to the Solomons for a while to work on a malaria project. Bon voyage to her!

Bunya Crossing, and re-crossing...and re-crossing

It was a beaut afternoon along the South Pine and we encountered a lot of people out enjoying it. The temperature was perfect, the riparian pathways were umbrageous (look it up) and the water was wonderfully clean and clear. Debris high in the trees was the only sign of the last flood - when was it? - and nothing could be more peaceful than the river's appearance. Here are a few shots from the walk, courtesy of Floater and Saucy Sous.

Trail markings were quite obvious (one would have thought) but this didn't stop some hashers from getting lost. One group of picnickers would have been bemused by the sight of Dumbbell and Miss Demeanour passing them three times as they went round and round in circles. They found their way home through someone's backyard and were honoured on their long-awaited return:

Cash Converta served up a yummy Mexican feast which we did full justice to. Many thanks to our hares for a great run/walk and meal! Here are a few more pics from Cash Converta and Saucy Sous:

In a couple of weeks we're looking forward to a UQ jacaranda run hosted by Superhacker! It will be great to see her again and revive the tradition....
